Therapist Questions - Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements

Thyroid supplements
I'd like to use a natural thyroid supplement and need to find out how to correlate the dosage between, say, Natural Sources brand and a western medical synthetic, such as Synthroid.  Can you help?  Thanks.

pain, muscles or nerves?
I am 70, woman, for the last 2 years I have pain, similar to cramps but extremely painful, mostly in the lower part of the legs/feet, but sometimes in the arm. It comes anytime but mostly in bed. I wake up screaming and it can last for over 15 minutes, it doesn't go away with massage, I have to stay still until it passes. The leg can hurts for days. A year ago they checked my legs for veins/clot (was normal) a neurologist made some moving tests (normal) My blood test came also all right. The docors seems not to know what I have. I tested myself; alcohol drinking, medicine changes, new food, couldn't figure anything. I swim in a sea water canal every day for half an hours. I am over weight but not obese. Sometimes just stretching trigger the pain. I realise later I am urinating alot, I have to go several times. Could you please help me? PLEASE! Which doctor should I look for? Is there a blood exam or whatever, that could give a hint? I don't want to end up in chair and sometimes it is like I feel.

How to maintain weight at or around a constant after frequent battles of loosing weight

My detais are as follows;

Age;  42 years     sex; female    Marital status ; Married            No. of Chidren; 1

Profession ; Medical officer

 Height; 4feet 10 inches        weight; 54Kg

Level of physical activity;I have busy shedule but physically not much active  It is quite difficult for me to do regular exercise due to my busy shedule  although i have tried hard.

Medical history ; No  major illnesses at the momoment but past medical history of gestational diabetes mellitus +

Family Medical history; Diabetes Mellitus ( Mother, Father, brother & sister ), Isheamic heart diease (mother, Father ), Obesity (siblings)

problem; From my teenage years my main problem is regaining weight after frequent horrible stuggles of loosing weight from about 65Kg to about48- 50 Kg.  I have gone through about 5 such episodes. At all these instances I gained  weight at a faster rate than loosing causing me much anxiety.

My main sratergy of loosing weight had been either by exercise or by dieting and some times by both methods. But after each big struggle i regained weight at a faster rate. At the moment Iam on a diet

My daily dietary recall;

Breakfast; tea+ 1 tea spoon non fat milk ( No Sugar)

                1 big banana

Lunch: 1/2 cup of boiled brown rice, 3 tab spoon of vegetables,  one small piece of fish/ dried fish/ chicken

Afternoon; tea + 1 tea spoon of non fat milk ( No sugar ), one slice of brown bread with curry or 2 sugarless buiscuits

Dinner; same as lunch

Rate of weighr loss; I loose about 1kg in five working days but regain that amount in just 2 days during the week ends when i have some rest such as an afternoon nap and better eating ( not over eating )

My worries; People of my height  and physical activity level are having normal meals and are not gaining weight where as I am always scared of food and my life is a constant battle agaist extra fat

What I think the cause of my problem; Multifactorial ie. Genetic predisposition for obesity, ?Low BMI, No regular exercise, Not knowing how much calories I need to eat, Frequent episodes of loosing and gaining weght

QUESTIONs

1.WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF MY PROBLEM?

2.PLEASE TELL ME THE AMOUNT OF CALORIES SUITABLE FOR ME AND THE LEVEL OF PHYSICAL ACTIVTY I SHOULD MAINTAIN TO HAVE A CONSTANT WEIGHT AT OR AROUND 50kg

What is the best thing to take for Osteoprosis of the spine
I have just been diagnosed with this condition and would like to treat it naturally if possible- what natural medications are there available and where would I avail myself of them.  I am 66 years old and experienced menopause when in my forties. A partial hysterectomy was performed at age 36 and HRT was preescribed until I was 55.

natural remedy for polymyalgia rhuematica

My father has recently been diagnosed with PMR.  His doctor is willing to treat him with the normal steroid treatment as he's already taking drugs for angina and over active thyroid.  Can you suggest any alternative natural remedies that would be helpful to him?

Thanks very much

breakfast & spirulina
Hello,

I am just wondering about breakfast - currently i take a glass of milo(milo + condensed milk) and 3grams of spirulina at 8:30am before i leave for work. Occasionally, i take a packet of instant milo(3 in 1 packet) at 10:30am if i feel hungry, otherwise i just drink plain water til i get my lunch at 12:45pm. On weekends, i just have a glass of milo and spirulina when i wake up as my breakfast.

1)Is it healthy for me to be doing this?

2)I have been doing it for a long time. What  are the effects of doing this long term?

3) Will taking Spirulina on empty stomache leads to bad effects on my stomache or well-being?

Thanks so much for your time.

IBS

I have suffered from Irritable bowel for over 15 yrs, I have had tests for Bowel disorders, cancer, etc but all doctors keep doing is prescribing me with, various tablets, Sennacot, Lactulose, Buscapan, Mebeverine, etc and the list goes on. I have a bowel movement on average every 7 to 10 ten and occasionally up to 14 day or more, I get lethargic, hair loss, very bad skin due to I can only assume is a build up of toxins, extreme headaches and nausea, for several days have to limit my food intake as unable to eat, and when I do go the back log is extreme and very painful to pass. I have asked doctors about colonic irrigation, or any alternative therapies but they all poo poo the idea excse the punn, and just keep giving me more tablets which work for upto 3 months then seem to have less affect por none at all. My stomache often looks like I am several months pregnant and with two children I find I need as much energy as possible and find often am so tired all the time I want to sleep by 8pm or before not leaving any time for myself and my partner. If there is any information you can give me or advice or alternative herbal treatments I would be most grateful.

Child with swollen, painful right leg

My child has a very swollen leg.  I have noticed that he has been not himself for about a week now, but I assumed that was because he's cutting his first teeth (he's 7 months-old).  I noticed the swollen leg yesterday, but even before then, he's been throwing up milk and his body is hot.  I have been giving him calcium-magnesium dissolved in water which has calmed down the teething and vit C for the temperature, which has also been working.  But now that the leg is swollen, the temperature won't settle back and he's in so much pain. He can't bend his leg at all and hates being touched right now.  I have been giving him Dr Schulze's superfood after which, he seems happier, but the swelling hasn't changed.  I am still giving him vit c with cal-mag and now he's urinating much more (his nappy had been almost dry until yesterday). From what I have looked up, it sounds like water retention, but as I'm not a trained practitioner, I'm not sure. I don't want to take him to a doctor and his naturopath is out of the country for about a month.  I will write to her too.  Many, many thanks.  Regards, Shilpa Shaw
