Fat! There are different types of fat all over the body. A study carried out by researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, focuses on the difference between belly fat cells and lower limb fat cells to see if one was worse than the other.

They found out that abdomen fat cells are most likely to be visceral fat cells, meaning they surround and even suffocate the organs. Fat cells found in the lower limbs such as the bottom and thighs are what biologists call subcutaneous, meaning they are superficial just under the layer of skin.

†The study followed a group of 28 volunteers over an 8 week period. The volunteers were to over eat for the entire time period, eating fast food, cake, ice cream, king size chocolate bars etc... After the 8 weeks the researchers analyzed the characteristics of the fat cells found in the volunteers. First, they noticed that the abdominal fat gain was greater than that of the lower limb fat gain; almost double. The cells were different too. Abdomen fat cells were bigger whereas lower limb fat increase was caused because there were a larger number of fat cells.

†The researchers believe that due to the nature of the abdominal fat cells they are more likely to cause a metabolic disorder. Metabolic disorders can be very difficult to diagnose and treat, they are linked to people who are over weight or obese and who do not exercise.

†To avoid increasing your chance of a metabolic disorder make core conditioning the focus of your exercise routines. Eat less food filled with sugar, cut carbonated drinks out of your diet, say no to beer and make an over all cut on your daily caloric intake. Daily cardiovascular exercise will absolutely help trim away your unwanted belly fat.†
