I have been trying to get pregnant for the past 3 years but with no luck - I'm 40 (husband is 39) and wondered what advice you could offer.  Currently receiving acupuncture and chineses herbal remedies.

I would recommend having hormones checked if you haven't done this. The important ones would be thyroid hormone-TSH, Free T3 and free T4, estradiol and progesterone.  I have seen corrected progesterone and thyroid hormone deficiencies very helpful.  There are some nutritional supplements, such as PABA that has some success in small clinical studies.  I would make sure that you and your husband were on a good hypoallergenic multivitamin.  Arginine has been shown to help with sperm mobility if that is an issue.

Infertility can be the cause of immense stress when the partners get totally absorbed in monitoring everything and checking all the time, trying different remedies to no avail.  Hypnotherapy is known to be effect in helping with infertility issues.  Take a look at www.mindbodybaby.net.  I am sure they will be able to help you both.

Good luck.  Jose Penrose

Remember its not just you who has responsibility....!!! When I treat for infertility, I treat BOTH halves of the partnership so I would recommend that you both receive acupuncture and take chinese remedies if that is the route you want to go.  As a Kinesiologist I would look at the WHOLE person so that means nutrition, chemical sensitivity, meridien imbalance, electrical impact and, crucially emotions....there may be fear or some fundamental conflict going on in one half or both halves of the partnership.  Also I would muscle test to see exactly what nutrition or herbs are required for each of you as individuals.- I would recomend that you visit a Systematic Kinesiologist.  As a general nutritional rule make sure you are both drinking LOADS (2L a day) of plain water with a varied rotational diet and that you take time out to relax each day - just 10 minutes is better than nothing - and visualise (a) yourself being pregnant and (b) you both as parents to really make it a reality.
