This workshop is targeted at Childminders, parents of pre-school children, nursery assistants, breakfast/after school at primary age.

Aims and Objectives:
  • To be able to encourage children to develop skills for their own independence
  • To be able to advise parents on a healthy diet and be able to write a healthy eating policy for their setting
  • To gain confidence when providing a healthy menu and choice for children in their care
  • To know the CWT guidelines on healthy eating for under 5's

Topics covered:

National standards of child minding relating to this course:
  • 3.6 child minder helps children to learn what is right and wrong
  • 4.10 there is provision for hygienic storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food.
  • 7.2 the child minder implements good hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infection.
  • 7.7 the child minder ensures all food is hygienically stored prepared cooked and served.
  • Standard 8 - Children are provided with regular drinks and food in adequate quantities for their needs. Food and drink is properly prepared, nutritious and complies with dietary and religious requirements.
  • 8.1 an agreement is made with parents as to which meals and snacks are to be provided by the child minder and the kind of foods to be provided.
