A lot of people have second thoughts before they decide to visit a chiropractor. The reason for this is that there are a lot of misconceptions going around about the practice of chiropractic care. But most of these misconceptions are false and baseless, and they do not have any merit in them. In this article, you will be learning about some of the most common misconceptions which people have about chiropractic care and chiropractors.

1.      Lack of scientific evidence to prove the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment:There are a lot of different scientific studies which have been conducted on chiropractic treatments which reveal that this is an effective mode of treatment. Studies have revealed that chiropractors can help in treating the pain of the lower back, the neck, and also cervicogenic dizziness.

2.      It is dangerous: Studies have revealed that chiropractic care is a very safe mode of medical treatment. It is a concern for many people that the adjustments on the neck may cause a stroke but as modern research has shown that a person is likely to get a stroke when visiting a general physician also. The neck adjustment cannot be blamed. The reality is that chiropractors see patients who may have strokes and it remains absolutely undetectable till it finally occurs, and hence the feeling that people have that chiropractic care caused the stroke.

3.      Chiropractors are not certified doctors:A chiropractor is not a medical doctor. But they go through the same training hours, and hence they get awarded with a D.C. title when they complete their training. This means a Doctor of Chiropractic. Thus, even though they are not Medical doctors or Doctors of Medicine, they are Doctors of Chiropractic.

4.      X-Ray is mandatory:The chiropractors get trained for reading and taking x-rays. The chiropractors need to follow the strict guidelines about whom they are allowed to x-ray. They will always provide justification when they take an x-ray and thus you need not be worried about unnecessarily getting an x-ray.

5.      Chiropractors only crack bones:chiropractors do not crack people’s bones. They only deliver specific impulses to the joints in order to stretch your receptors. The goal here is to try and return the joints back to their original and normal functioning mode. This will be required in certain cases where a patient’s spine does not function properly. It is quite safe a method anyway.

6.      Chiropractors just work on spinal problems: The Chiropractors get trained for working on several types of problems which affect the joints, the muscles, and the nerves. This will range from neck problems to ankle injuries to shoulder problems. They also learn about the other forms of pathologies which are besides what they treat and hence can detect other serious problems also.
