For all the good, there are still some side effects of taking an acai berry supplement that you need to know about.  Keep reading if you want to know the good and the bad on taking the acai berry in supplement form.

The Antioxidants in Acai Berries
One of the biggest claims to fame of the acai berry is its ability to provide much more antioxidants than other foods.  Even the blueberry, a fruit that has the reputation of being in an elite class of super-foods, can’t compare to the acai berry.  A fruit with as much antioxidants as the acai berry works hard at eradicating the damage done by free radicals.

But even though those antioxidants are fighting the war to keep your cells clear of oxidation, they must still be replenished.  This is why acai berries are so good for the health of the body; they help to keep antioxidant levels high in the body which in turn keeps your cells clean and disease free.

A Little Research Has Shown
One of the negative sides of the acai berry lies in the fact that there isn’t much research up to this point on this tiny purple berry that is garnering so much attention.  For centuries the natives from the region of the world where the acai berry grows exclusively have known about the wonderful effects they’ve experienced by making it a part of their regular diet.

But this has not translated into a ton of scientific research to back up all the amazing claims that are being made with regard to the acai berry.  In the end, most will have to try an acai berry supplement themselves to verify the results for themselves.

What Can’t Be Denied
The truth though is that the acai berry offers some benefits which can’t be denied.  If you are looking to lose some weight for instance, you can expect that the acai berry can do a lot to help you reach this goal.  You will have increased energy as your metabolism gets a boost from the compounds present within the acai berry.  You can also expect that your digestive system will be cleansed and your body will be better able to absorb the nutrients from the foods you eat.

If Weight Loss Isn’t Your Goal
If you are looking to add on weight instead of drop it, the acai berry is probably not going to help you meet those goals.  Most who take the acai berry supplement (in any form) report having a decrease in appetite; this combined with the increase in metabolism is not where you want to be if you are not looking to lose any weight.

The only other reason you might consider saying no to trying out the acai berry would be if you had an allergy.  Like any other food on the planet, it is possible to have an allergy to the acai berry; obviously if this is the case, you shouldn’t be taking this particular supplement.
