Sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical exercise and stress has led to the onset of a new form of diseases known as lifestyle disorders.  Some of the most common lifestyle disorders include stroke, chronic respiratory problems, cancer, obesity and diabetes. These conditions develop over time due to factors such as unhealthy diet, tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption and more.

Cardiovascular diseases account for nearly 1.7 million deaths every year making it the most deadly disease globally. Cancer kills around 8.8 million people every year, respiratory diseases, on the other hand, are responsible for 3.9 million deaths annually.  Lifestyle disorders are life-threatening and go unnoticed unless the condition becomes severe. In such a scenario, it becomes important for almost every individual to ensure if he/she may be suffering from such conditions.

Preventive health checkups can help in early detection of these conditions and prevent them from becoming lethal.  Type II diabetes

Type II diabetes refers to a condition in which the body is unable to process the insulin. The condition is also referred to as insulin resistance. At first, the pancreas produces more insulin to utilize the glucose but eventually, the glands stop producing enough insulin to keep blood glucose at normal levels.  One of the primary causes of type II diabetes is obesity. Type II diabetes usually occurs due to poor eating habits and bad lifestyle choices. India has the largest number of type II diabetic patients which can be summed up to around 40.9 million. The number is fast increasing with kids being affected by the condition as well.

Arteriosclerosis

The condition occurs when the walls of arteries thicken and lose their elasticity. Arteriosclerosis usually causes blood circulation disorders, heart attacks and chest pain. Arteriosclerosis is also linked to conditions such as diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure.

Heart diseases

Hearth diseases arise from any irregularity or abnormality that affects the heart muscle and the walls of blood vessels. Consumption of tobacco, smoking and high level of cholesterol in the body lead to the onset of heart-related conditions. Also, eating too much junk food serves as a major factor in increasing the level of bad cholesterol in the body. India ranks number one in patients suffering from heart-related ailments with 50 million patients suffering from the conditions.

 High blood pressure

High blood pressure is a condition characterized by clogged arteries that put the walls of the blood vessels under too much force.  Around 100 million people in India suffer from high blood pressure. Some of the most common reasons for high blood pressure are obesity, stress, unhealthy eating habits and genetic factors.

Cancer

Due to stress and changed lifestyle habits, our immunity has decreased. The white blood cells present in the body have lost their strength to fight the viruses that enter the body.  Because of this decreased immunity, there may be irregular cell growth which may eventually lead to cancer. Also, cancer may be caused due to reasons such as prolonged smoking, tobacco consumption, staying in contact with carcinogenic substances and more.

Stroke

The condition arises when the blood vessel that carries blood to the brain has a blockage leading to the deficiency of oxygen for the brain. Stroke may be a result of high blood pressure which may further be caused due to a high level of bad cholesterol in the body.  The stroke may also occur due to genetic factors which make patients more prone to developing the condition

Increase in the level of air pollution is one of the major factors responsible for the occurrence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In the year 2014, around 4.3 million people were diagnosed with this disease in India and the number keeps on increasing.
