ADHD

What is ADHD?

ADHD referred to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder, usually characterized by individuals often starting from toddlers and upwards with problems in concentration and hyperactivity.

ADHD is the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children, affecting up to about 5 percent of children globally and sometimes as high as 50% of those individuals diagnosed in childhood continuing to have symptoms into adulthood.

Boys are about three times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with ADHD, it is not completely understood why boys are more prone than girls to have ADHD.

Problems with hyperactivity can include excessive fidgetiness and squirminess, running or climbing when it is not appropriate, excessive talking, and being constantly on the move.

Impulsivity can show up as impatience, difficulty awaiting one's turn, blurting out answers, and frequent interrupting.

Kids with ADHD often act without thinking, are hyperactive, and have trouble focusing, they struggle to pay attention to detail and cannot sit still or concentrate for any length of time and often are only concerned about what they want, rather than others needs.
