What is Acne?
Acne is basically a disorder of the hair follicle or pore. Acne vulgaris, is knows as common acne and is usually classified as a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin.
Acne most frequently effects the teenagers, about 70% of teens will experience some form of acne. Both sexes can equally suffer from this skin disorder, but boys often are more prone to have it longer and usually more severe than do girls.
Acne is not limited just to teenagers, both men and women can suffer from adult acne breakouts, this uncomfortable skin condition can also occur in babies, toddlers, and children of all ages.
Often acne can be referred to as zits, pimples, blackheads and or whiteheads, mainly affecting the upper part of the body including face, neck, chest, back, and upper parts of the arms .
It is not completely understood why some are more prone to getting acne than others, the condition occurs when the follicles, often called pores, sometimes get blocked; the sebum oil which normally drains to the surface gets blocked and then bacteria begins to grow.
When the trapped sebum and bacteria stay below the skin surface, a whitehead is formed and usually shows as tiny white spots, they also can be so small that they are invisible to the naked eye.
The blackhead occurs when the pore opens to the surface, and the sebum, which contains the skin pigment melanin, oxidizes and begins to turn black or brown. find out more by contacting a specialist >> |
